Just a few days after Canadian Air Traffic controllers bought hundreds of pizzas for their unpaid American counterpart, an Indian engineer served free meals, which included samsoas and pizzas, to 80 TSA staff members at JFK airport, New York.
The US federal staff have been hit hard by the US government shutdown and most have been working without pay for weeks now.The deadlock in the government is over funding for the proposed wall at the US-Mexico border by president Donald Trump, reported Reuters.
On Monday, Indian techie Abdul Basit Khan came forward and did his bit in helping the unpaid TSA staff members.Abdul distributed 80 pizzas and snack items to the TSA staff members at JFK International Airport and also shared pictures and videos of the heartwarming gesture on Facebook. “It was an honor to stand with these employees who are working with no paychecks due to the govt shutdown. The least we could do is to serve lunch for 80 federal employees of JFK International airport (New York). May Allah make it easy for them soon! Thank You for everyone who supported and motivated to implement it,” Abdul wrote on Facebook.
Although Abdul has been treated unfairly by TSA in the past, it did not deter him from helping the ones in need.
“I used to be frequently subjected to additional checks and taken out of the queue by TSA - I assume that was because of Khan being my last name,” said Abdul.
“I decided to lead this initiative and served pizzas for 80 Federal Employees at JFK. I don't have any expectations from them because what they do is their job, and what I did is mine. I hope their suffering ends soon" he added
