now you can use fingerprint scanner to login to your Android application no need to use complicated passwords

Android passwords could be a thing of the past as Android has received FIDO2 certification which means smartphones can use fingerprint scanner and security pin to log into accounts. Google and the FIDO Alliance on Monday announced that a majority of devices running on Android 7 or above will now be able to log in Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge and other mobile browsers via biometric authentication or security pins. They will no longer have to rely on password logins. This update will enable the Web and App developers to add strong authentication to Android apps and websites.

In contrast with the passwords, the biometric authentication is a strong way to secure accounts as it is reliable and difficult to hack. Therefore, it will prevent phishing scams to take place. On the other hand, it will also bring passwordless and hassle-free access to websites and apps. With this update, it will be easy for users to log in with the fingerprint scanner, they would no longer have to worry about forgetting complicated passwords.

Christiaan Brand, Product Manager, Google said, “Google has long worked with the FIDO Alliance and W3C to standardize FIDO2 protocols, which give an application the ability to move beyond password authentication while offering protection against phishing attacks. Today’s announcement of FIDO2 certification for Android helps move this initiative forward, giving our partners and developers a standardized way to access secure key stores across devices, both in the market already as well as forthcoming models, in order to build convenient biometric controls for users.”

While Brett McDowell, Executive Director, FIDO Alliance added, “FIDO2 was designed from day one to be implemented by platforms, with the ultimate goal of ubiquity across all the web browsers, devices and services we use every day. With this news from Google, the number of users with FIDO Authentication capabilities has grown dramatically and decisively. Together with the leading web browsers that are already FIDO2 compliant, now is the time for website developers to free their users from the risk and hassle of passwords and integrate FIDO Authentication today.”
