vaginal yeast infection :symptoms and causes ,can you have sex with a yeast infection ?

Vaginal yeast infections are a common condition that affects up to 75 per cent of women at some point in their lifetime. Also known as candidiasis, the condition isn’t considered a sexually transmitted infection (STI), however, having sex with a yeast infection can be painful and carry some risks even if you’re not showing symptoms.
In most cases, vaginal yeast infections are caused by an overgrowth of the organism Candida albicans or penetration of the fungus into deeper vaginal cell layers. Yeast infections can share many of the same symptoms as some sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). Read - Sexual hygiene tips: 5 things every man and woman should do after SEX
Signs and symptoms of vaginal yeast infections
The signs and symptoms of a vaginal yeast infection include -
Itching, burning, and irritation in the vagina and vulva
Pain during urination or sexual intercourse
Vaginal pain and soreness
Abnormal vaginal discharge
Vaginal rash
Redness
Some mild yeast infections may get better with over-the-counter (OTC) remedies or without treatment. However, people should consult with a doctor, especially if they have a yeast infection for the first time, to ensure that they get the proper diagnosis and treatment
Sex during a yeast infection: Is it safe?
Individuals are recommended to refrain from sexual activity until the infection has cleared up to minimise pain and itching. Sexual activity can also transmit the infection from a woman to a male partner, although it’s not considered an STD - since it can occur in women who aren’t sexually active.
Having sex with a yeast infection can be extremely painful and allow symptoms to return. Moreover, having sex while undergoing treatment for a yeast infection can delay the healing process.
How long does a yeast infection usually last?
Treating a vaginal yeast infection usually takes only one to seven days with antifungal medications. It may take up to two weeks in severe cases.
You can also take some steps to help prevent or reduce your risk of getting a yeast infection by keeping the vaginal area dry and avoiding irritating chemicals. In addition, eating a well-balanced diet and consuming foods with probiotics also may be beneficial
