WhatsApp abuse register complaint against offence

WhatsApp has become one of the most popular instant messaging apps in the world and while it helps us stay connected with our family and friends, share pictures, videos, and even documents, everything has a dark side to it and WhatsApp is no exception to this as well. The Indian gohvernment is still trying to curb the face news problem in regards to WhatsApp while hate messages have now become another issue for the Facebook-owned platform.

While authorities are still working on how they can keep a check on hate messages, fake news, and tracing their origin on WhatsApp, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) have jumped into action by launching a channel through which WhatsApp users can register complaints regarding offensive or hate messages received on the platform.

“If anyone is receiving abusive/offensive/death threats/vulgar WhatsApp messages, please send screen shots of the message along with the mobile numbers at ccaddn-dot@nic.in. We will take it up with the telecom operators and police heads for necessary action,” Ashish Joshi DoT controller communications tweeted recently.

This comes after several journalists reported that they are receiving abusive messages through WhatsApp while complaints by public figures were also seen. It has now been reported that the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has ordered all India telecom operators to take immediate action on such complaints as it is a violation of customer declaration according to licensing conditions which is also stated in the customer application form.

Other than that, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has also suggested that all telecom operators in India should open a helpline or a dedicated call center for complaints against offensive or hate messages on WhatsApp.
