45 thousand people affected in Mullaitivu, Kilinochchi and Jaffna districts

Colombo: Mullaitivu, Kilinochchi, Mannar, Vavuniya and Jaffna districts in the northern province of Sri Lanka have been flooding for the past three days. Mullaitivu, Kilinochchi, Mannar, Vavuniya and Jaffna have been flooding the Tamils. This has led to floods in these five districts. The floods in the water, including Mankulam and Iranamadu are flooded. The main road leading to Mullaithivu Island is cut off.




More than 50 thousand of 14 thousand families have been affected by floods in 5 districts in the Northern Province. The Disaster Management Board reports that more than 11,000 people have been rescued so far. All resettled people have been sheltered in 52 camps. Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu districts are severely affected by floods.

According to the Board of Disaster Management, a total of 10 houses have been completely destroyed and 200 houses damaged due to heavy rains. Kilinochchi district recorded 400 mm rainfall. All the ponds in the district are filled with water. 212 helicopters and aircraft have been used to rescue victims. President Maithripala Sirisena has ordered immediate relief for flood victims
