A 9-year old girl from Pennsylvania, USA has been rewarded $1,000 (Rs 70,000) for growing an extraordinarily large cabbage. As reported by AP,Lily Ries won the prize after participating in the National Bonnie Plants Third Grade Cabbage Program.
Ries, who is a fourth-grader at Peebles Elementary School in Pittsburgh, won the first prize for her extra-large vegetable.
Pictures of the giant cabbage have now gone viral on social media.
Megan Ries, Lily’s mother, told the news agency she had no idea cabbages could grow big and was very surprised when it just kept growing.
Lily said all she did was water the cabbage regularly and allowed enough sunlight on her deck in Allison Park. It didn't need anything special to grow.
After the cabbage was harvested, Lily’s family made an excess amount of coleslaw which eventually had to be given to the rabbits in their yard.
More than 32,000 children from across the state of Pennsylvania participated in the National Bonnie Plants Third Grade Cabbage Program
