Uttarakhand grooms treks 6 km in heavy snow to reach his wedding

A man from Uttarakhand has become an inspiration for many would-be grooms in India after he trekked more than 6 kilometers in heavy snow to reach his wedding.

The wedding ceremony, which had only 25 invitees, was scheduled for Friday at Makku Math in Rudraprayag. The groom-to-be and the wedding party of around 80 people left from Triyuginarayan village but were stuck in a massive traffic jam due to heavy snowfall in the state.

When the roads showed no signs of clearing, the party decided to send only seven people to the wedding – the groom, the groom’s maternal uncle, sisters, and some elderly people, reported Hindustan Times.

The family, which also included, then undertook a 6 kilometre-long trek to reach the wedding venue at Makku Math.

“We had seen a wedding procession like this in 2002 and now this was the next one. People will talk about this procession and the wedding for years as in both the weddings the groom was an army jawan,” Ashish Gairola, the groom’s brother, told the newspaper.

Ashish added that the family thoroughly enjoyed the trek to the wedding and his eight-year-old son played with snow throughout the way.

“If you see the pictures then you would question whether they were even feeling cold, forget difficulty,” he said.

Triyuginarayan village has been without power supply for more than a week now and the groom’s family have been charging their phone in their car.

“Even I had to go to the wedding but were all stuck due to the snow. But those who went enjoyed the whole journey and the wedding took place without any problem,” Bijay Lal, head of Triyuginarayan village, told the newspaper
