is going VEGAN really good for your health ?know the pros and cons

.vegan diet refers to eating only plant-based products like fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, etc. and not consuming animal-based food like meat, fish or dairy. Veganism is becoming a phenomenon all over the world. Some people believe in the idea because of animal protection while some vouch for the health benefits a vegan diet can have.

A recent study had proven that a diet of only vegan products can help in weight management. A new diet called the Pegan diet is also becoming popular. A pegan diet brings together the features and benefits of the paleo diet and the vegan diet. However, a vegan diet may not be all pros, it has some cons too. Here is a list of both to help you decide if going vegan is a good idea for you or not!

Weight loss
A vegan diet is rich in fibre and helps in improving digestion and increases metabolic rate. This helps in keeping BMI and weight managed.

Low cholesterol
A vegan diet consists of food products that contain little to no bad cholesterol and therefore can help in keeping the heart healthy. They help in keeping blood pressure under control and reduce the risk of problems like heart attacks, strokes, etc.

Management of diabetes
A high fibre diet also helps in keeping the blood sugar levels under control – a very important aspect of diabetes management. Reduced weight also helps in reducing the risk of developing diabetes.

Lacks in a few nutrients
While a balanced vegan diet is a good idea, some nutrients may still not be received from the food items you eat in a vegan diet. They include vitamin B12, iron, protein, calcium, vitamin D, omega 3 fatty acids. These nutrients may be less in quantity in vegan food items and people who eat a vegan diet are at a higher risk of suffering from their deficiency.

More likely to develop a food intolerance
Vegetarians and vegans are found to be more likely to develop food intolerance towards certain food items. This could lead to allergic reactions and also cause other health risks
