station therapy can reduce the risk of cardiovascular problems in older adults

new medical study conducted on nearly 1,87,000 people who took part in 28 large clinical trials has found that statin therapy can help in reducing the risk of heart problems like strokes, attacks and others in older adults.

According to an ANI report, the study was conducted over six groups of individuals and the effect of statins on heart attacks, strokes, coronary diseases, cancer incidences and death were recorded.

Statin can help in reducing bad cholesterol (LDL) in the blood which is directly liked to heart health. High LDL causes the arteries of the heart to harden, thereby increasing blood pressure and causing other cardiovascular problems. Statin is, in fact, prescribed to millions of people globally to reduce bad cholesterol levels.

The study was led by Professor Anthony Keech who said, “Statin therapy has been shown to prevent cardiovascular disease in a wide range of people, but there has been uncertainty about its efficacy and safety among older people. Our study summarised all the available evidence from major trials to help clarify this issue. We found that there were significant reductions in major vascular events in each of the six age groups considered, including patients aged over 75 at the start of treatment.”

Older individuals are at a higher risk of heart diseases due to improper sleep, diet issues, inactivity, and other causes. Statin therapy may be good news for all of them as they may reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases and incidences of death due to heart attacks and strokes.
