An Australian newspaper recently named a racehorse as “Australian Of The Year” after failing to find any human who demonstrated hard work, grit, and honesty in the past year, reported AFP.
As per reports, The Daily Telegraph was unable to find idols and role models from the fields of sports, politics, art & culture after days of extensive research and reporting. So, they decided to name champion thoroughbred Winx as the winner.
"Has the nominee lived by the Australian values of fair play and civility?" the newspaper asked and shared a list of qualities required to earn the coveted title.
The horse has won several races and awards in its illustrious career and is expected to retire soon. Daily Telegraph said Winx was the only one who met with the newspaper’s winning criteria.
The announcement for was made just a day before the award ceremony of the official Australian Of the Year which was held on January 26.
This year, The prestigious title was given to cave divers Richard Harris and Craig Challen who rescued 12 football players and their coach from a flooded cave in Chiang Rai, Thailand
